Lester Earnshaw was born in Hawke's Bay. From 1941 until 1946, he served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force in Great Britain, North Africa, and Italy. After the war he worked for the New Zealand Hydro Electric Department building power lines. Later, he became, in turn, an electrician, a carpenter, a chicken farmer, and finally, an electronics engineer and manufacturer. In January of 1961, he and his family migrated to the United States, where he continued a career in electronics. Currently he lives in Sedona, Arizona.
